Die Geschichte des Geb\u00e4udes reicht bis 1852 zur\u00fcck. Damals lie\u00df August Ernst Meffert im Auftrag der Witwe des damaligen Kurhausp\u00e4chters M\u00fcller ein Hotel an der Hauptpromenade errichten. Das Haus galt schon damals als eines der sch\u00f6nsten Geb\u00e4ude des Ortes. 1888 \u00fcbernahm der Hotelier Franz Schmidt das Geb\u00e4ude und gab ihm den Namen \u201eHerzogin Charlotte\u201c. 1913 wechselte die Immobilie erneut den Besitzer. Die Grafen Wiser richteten darin ab 1915 eine Augenheilanstalt und ein Lazarett ein. Unter der Bezeichnung \u201eAugenheilanstalt Charlotte\u201c begann damit ein neuer Abschnitt in der Geschichte des Hauses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"603\" src=\"https:\/\/rottenplaces.de\/rpweb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sanatorium_bad_liebenstein8.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6805\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rottenplaces.de\/rpweb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sanatorium_bad_liebenstein8.jpg 900w, https:\/\/rottenplaces.de\/rpweb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sanatorium_bad_liebenstein8-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rottenplaces.de\/rpweb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/sanatorium_bad_liebenstein8-768x515.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg kehrte das Geb\u00e4ude zun\u00e4chst wieder zur urspr\u00fcnglichen Nutzung zur\u00fcck. Ab 1919 wurde es erneut als Hotel betrieben. W\u00e4hrend des Zweiten Weltkriegs diente das Haus wiederum als Lazarett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sanatorium mit langer medizinischer Tradition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bad Liebenstein entwickelte sich bereits fr\u00fch zu einem bedeutenden Kur- und Heilbad. Auch das Sanatorium Liebenstein erlangte \u00fcberregionalen Ruf. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg \u00fcbernahmen die \u00c4rzte Max Seige und Felix Eichler eine Heilst\u00e4tte und bauten sie zu einer renommierten medizinischen Einrichtung aus. Patienten wurden unter anderem aus der Jenaer Psychiatrie zur Kur nach Bad Liebenstein geschickt. Die medizinische Nutzung pr\u00e4gte den Ort \u00fcber Jahrzehnte. Das Geb\u00e4ude wurde zunehmend dem Leerstand \u00fcberlassen und entwickelte sich zu einem markanten Lost Place im historischen Kurort. Heute erinnert der Bau an die wechselvolle Geschichte Bad Liebensteins als Hotel-, Lazarett- und Klinikstandort.
